  • Reduce costs, save time. These are the two biggest reasons for carpooling. By adding one more person to your car, you can share the costs of driving and make use of any carpool-only lanes in your area. Sharing your ride with more than one person means even more savings, and often is a requrement for carpool-only lanes in some communities.

Carpoolers are often eligible for "guaranteed ride home" services in many metropolitan areas. Guaranteed Ride Home will provide a free taxi ride home to you if, for some reason, you are stuck at work or need to leave early from work, without your carpool partner.

If you don't have a readily available carpool partner, many communities around the United States offer free ridematching services.

    Benefits of Carpooling

    • Use carpool / HOV lanes to bypass traffic on highways, arterials, and bridges
    • Reduce the overall cost of parking, gasoline, insurance, and wear/tear on your automobile
    • Flexibility -- carpool when you can and with whomever you want
